Categories of membership

The membership of the Association is divided into the following categories:

  1. ordinary members
  2. life members
  3. retired members

Details on eligibility for membership categories other than ordinary members can be found in the Articles of Association in the members section of the website.

Admission to Ordinary Membership

Applications for admission to membership as an ordinary member are submitted to the Board of Directors via this membership application form 

Any person desiring to be admitted as an ordinary member of the Association must satisfy the Board as to his or her qualifications. At the time of application, the applicant shall be practicing as a Consulting Structural Engineer and as a guide to the Board’s discretion:

  • Have a minimum of ten years’ structural engineering practice that can be verified by an existing ACSE member;
  • Hold chartered status (CPEng) with Engineers’ Australia OR an equivalent international qualification that is accepted by the Board.
  • Hold a position of authority within an engineering practice which requires supervision of project staff and responsibility for the certification of structural designs.
  • Be included in the National Professional Engineers’ Register (NPER Structural)

Following receipt of your application form you will be contacted by a member of the Board for an interview.

The election of a person as an ordinary member shall take place at a meeting of the Board, the notice convening which contains specific reference to the proposed election as part of the business of the meeting.
