2020 Winner – Eric Smith
Eric has experience in a wide variety of projects through all stages of development — covering feasibility studies, costing and financial planning, design and preparation of documents and site supervision. His experience includes model and computer studies of structures, design, documentation and site attendance of all structures from bridges, heritage structures, carparks, shopping centres to high rise residential and commercial developments. Eric’s design experience covers both reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel with associated welding technology. He also worked with Industry in the development of a testing regime for Autoclaved Aerated Concrete.
2019 Winner – Tim Hogan
Tim has enjoyed a highly successful career and is a recognised specialist in all matters dealing with structural steel in terms of design work, practical construction and specialised connection details. He has had significant involvement in more than 200 complex structural projects. In addition to this he was a part-time lecturer at UTS for many years. He has authored and co-authored 15 text books, 17 conference papers and 17 technical journal articles. His vast specialist knowledge resulted in him providing Expert Witness Opinions on many technical reports and maintenance procedures.
2017 Winner – Richard Kell
Dick’s career commenced in 1960 and successfully progressed to culminate in his becoming Chairman of Cardno and then Executive Director after its listing in 2004. He has appeared frequently in the Engineers Australia “Top 100” and was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1998 for services to Engineering, particularly Bridge Engineering and International Affairs. Dick has led major infrastructure expansions in Australia, Papua New Guinea, Pacific Islands, Malaysia, Abu Dhabi, Indonesia and Vietnam. Dick is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering, and an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. He is currently Chairman of the Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering at the University of Sydney and serves on the board of DRBF Australia.
