Our Board of Directors are peer elected volunteers and usually serve on the Board for five to eight years, with at least one year as president. The Board meets once a month to plan all events and activities and discuss financial and administration matters.
The Association employs a part-time Executive Officer to manage all business activity and events.
Andrew has worked as a consulting structural engineer in Sydney for over 30 years and currently heads up AD Consulting Engineers, a firm that specialises in houses and high-end architecture. He has a strong interest and focus on the design of high-end, architecturally-designed houses, with a particular flair for reinforced concrete. His work has been recognised with numerous projects receiving Excellence in Engineering awards from both the ACSE and the Concrete Institute of Australia. In 2018 he became a Fellow of Engineers Australia.
Max is a Technical Director with Mott MacDonald and has 30 years’ industry experience gained in both Australia and the United Kingdom. Throughout his career, Max has been involved in numerous large residential and notable commercial projects and most recently in the last 10 to 15 years he has developed a track record for successful delivery of the structural designs of integrated transport hubs, such as airports and metro rail stations in Sydney. Max is a key leader in Mott MacDonald’s Australian structures practice and is a chartered engineer.
Martin is an Associate Director at Taylor Thomson Whitting (TTW).He is a dedicated engineer and leader with a strong technical background. His career development from an early stage required a firm grasp of engineering first principles to develop performance based seismic retrofit solutions in the Middle East. Bringing a wealth of design experience, Martin contributes his first-principles expertise to problem-solving in Australia across a range of sectors. He has successfully led many complex projects with a personal and collaborative approach and currently leads the Construction Engineering division at TTW.
Michael is a Chartered Structural / Civil Engineer with more than 40 years of experience in the construction industry working on major building projects in United Kingdom, Middle East and in Australia since 1986.
As the founder of MAJCON he brings more than 30 years of experience as a business owner in a private consultancy practice.
In 2007 Michael was invited to become a Director of the Association of Consulting Structural Engineers NSW and in 2011 was elected President. He has attained Fellow status of the Institution of Civil Engineers and Institution of Engineers Australia. In 2020 he was invited to the Structural College Board of Engineers Australia.
Marie believes that engineering is one of the most fascinating industries and professions there can be. She sees an industry where engineering is accessible to everyone and there is creativity and innovation embedded in professional practice to address society’s needs. Through mentoring and speaking events she engages with school students and industry peers to demonstrate how great engineering can be. Marie has over 20 years of experience in structural engineering design and construction of various building types in Ireland and Australis and is an Associate Director at SDA Structures. Marie leads by creating space to listen and for sharing of ideas and is one of key leaders of business development within SDA Structures.
Paul has designed many local and international projects including sporting facilities, large scale defence, retail centres, commercial buildings, health and education facilities, warehousing, and residential structures and complex specialist structures. Paul also has extensive experience in Heritage and Adaptive Re-use of existing buildings. Interest includes Embodied carbon reduction and value engineering of structures and policy and best practices within the Engineering Profession.
Tania is well-versed in international design codes and building practices, gained through her extensive experience in both new design and existing building assessments. She excels at coordinating multidisciplinary teams of consultants to deliver efficient and effective design solutions. Her diverse educational background and broad range of professional experiences enable her to provide a comprehensive understanding of projects, supporting both business development and project sustainability.
Passionate about the built environment, Tania takes great pride in her contributions to shaping it.
Afshin is a Chartered Principal Structural Engineer and Director at Reeca Consultants, a specialised engineering consultancy based in Sydney. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and brings over 25 years of industry experience across defence, residential, commercial, industrial, mining, infrastructure, education, health, and heritage sectors.
Afshin’s expertise lies in strategic planning, practice leadership, and delivering technically demanding and complex projects. He is particularly focused on efficiency, sustainability, and life-cycle risk management in both projects and engineering operations. Afshin is deeply committed to addressing the evolving challenges faced by structural engineers within Australia’s changing regulatory and built environment.
Michael takes a hands-on approach and values practical solutions, straightforward advice and good working relationships. Alongside running the practice, he enjoys helping younger engineers build their confidence and judgement. He believes good engineering starts with asking the right questions and is usually made better by a conversation.
