AWARDS CATEGORIES

Award for Small Projects – Awarded to small projects which demonstrate excellence in structural engineering with a construction value of less than $25m.

Award for Medium Projects – Awarded to projects which demonstrate excellence in structural engineering with a construction value of between $25m to $50m.

Award for Large Projects – Awarded to large projects which demonstrate excellence in structural engineering with a construction value greater than $50m.

Unusual Projects – Awarded to projects of any value that demonstrate structural engineering in the wider community and are of a special nature.

Small or Regional Firms Projects – Awarded to projects of any value that demonstrate structural engineering excellence by small or regional firms.

Sustainable Structures Award – This category seeks to invite nominations for projects where the structural engineering facilitated a notable feature or initiative that is environmentally sustainable.

Gold Medal Award – Awarded to a distinguished NSW based structural engineer, nominated by the board, to recognise an outstanding and long-term contribution to the structural engineering profession.

Emerging Engineer of the Year – Awarded to an outstanding young engineer who has demonstrated excellence in their career to date.

Female Engineer of the Year – Awarded to leading female engineer who is a role model for other women in engineering.

Judging Panel

Award winners are decided by a judging panel comprised of some of the most experienced and respected professionals in the Australian structural engineering industry. Their collective knowledge spans a variety of specialities within the field including academia, architecture, construction, sustainability, innovation and research.

AWARDS SUBMISSIONS

An award submission in the ‘project’ categories, requires key pictures, drawings, sketches and concise descriptive text that demonstrates how the project fulfils the principles and intent of the award. We accept a maximum of 5 x A4 pages in addition to the entry form.

An award submission in the ‘people’ categories, requires a profile photo and concise descriptive text that demonstrates how the person fulfils the selection criteria. We accept a maximum of  3 x A4 pages in addition to the entry form.

For all submissions, attachments or information beyond this limit will not be distributed to the judges. The font is to be no smaller than 11pt and the submission should include images and technical drawings as appropriate.

We will also require high resolution images or video and a short voiceover script summarising your project so that your submission can be shown as a video at the Awards Presentation night. Details of these technical requirements will be sent after your submission is received.

Award Criteria

The awards are open to all NSW based structural engineering practices and professionals. Projects submitted for the awards should promote achievement, innovation and excellence in the field of structural engineering by demonstrating principles such as:

  • Creativity
  • Innovation
  • Sustainability
  • Response to the project brief
  • Recognition of site constraints

Submissions should focus on structural engineering aspects and design of a project and demonstrate how the project is an example of excellence in structural engineering. The submission must include sufficient information (e.g. structural drawings and typical details) for the judges to assess the structural aspects.
